The Triumph™ Elm (Ulmus 'Morton Glossy') is a fast-growing, deciduous shade tree, reaching 50–60 feet in height with a 35–45 foot spread, known for its strong, vase-shaped structure and superior resistance to Dutch Elm Disease. Introduced by the Morton Arboretum, this durable cultivar features glossy green summer foliage that turns yellow in autumn.

Key Characteristics

  • Disease & Pest Resistance: Highly resistant to Dutch Elm Disease, and shows good resistance to Elm Yellows and Elm leaf beetle.
  • Growth & Form: Fast growth rate (up to 3-6 feet/year when young) with a stiff, upright, and eventually vase-shaped form.
  • Foliage & Fall Color: Dark green, glossy leaves that turn yellow in the fall.
  • Site Tolerance: Excellent adaptability to urban conditions, including clay soils, compaction, and drought, making it ideal for street tree, parkway, or lawn use.
  • Hardiness: Zones 4–7.

Maintenance and Tips

  • Pruning: Requires early training to establish a strong central leader.
  • Adaptability: Thrives in full sun and various soil conditions.
  • Issues: While highly resistant, it is not immune to DED; it is susceptible to Japanese beetles.

Triumph Elm is favored for its rapid establishment and ability to handle harsh urban environments.
