Hosta 'Patriot' is a popular, award-winning, low-maintenance perennial known for its striking, large, dark green leaves with wide, crisp white margins. It thrives in USDA zones 3–9, forming a dense mound 12–22 inches tall and 24–30 inches wide, making it ideal for brightening shady borders and containers.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Appearance: Features glossy, ovate leaves with a significant contrast between dark green centers and bright white edges.
  • Flowers: Produces lavender, bell-shaped flowers in mid-to-late summer on scapes that rise up to 34 inches tall.
  • Growth Rate: Considered a fast-growing, vigorous cultivar.
  • Benefits: Highly versatile for shaded, moist, or wooded areas, and offers good slug resistance due to its thicker leaves.

Growing and Care Requirements

  • Light: Prefers partial to full shade, but has better sun tolerance than many other hostas.
  • Soil: Thrives in moist, well-drained, nutrient-rich soil.
