The Greenspire Littleleaf Linden (Tilia cordata 'PNI 6025') is a popular, hardy, and highly symmetrical deciduous shade tree, widely favored for urban landscapes. It typically grows 40–50 feet tall with a 30–35 foot spread, featuring a distinctively uniform, pyramidal crown and fragrant, yellow, early-summer flowers that attract bees.

Key Features & Characteristics

  • Foliage: Small, heart-shaped (cordate) leaves that are dark, glossy green in summer, turning a bright, golden yellow in autumn.
  • Form: A fast-growing tree with a strong central leader and dense branching, creating a refined, formal, cone-like shape.
  • Flowers: Prolific, fragrant, pale yellow flowers bloom in late June to July.
  • Hardiness: Extremely hardy (Zones 3–8), tolerating temperatures down to -40∘F
  • Durability: Highly tolerant of pollution, compacted soil, drought (once established), and adaptable to clay or dry conditions.

Landscaping & Maintenance

  • Best Uses: Excellent choice for street trees, boulevard plantings, privacy screens, or a large, central shade tree in lawns.
  • Maintenance: Low maintenance, but it requires regular watering in the first 2–3 years to establish.
  • Pruning: Best pruned in late winter.
  • Pests: Generally resistant to major issues, though it can be susceptible to Japanese beetles, which may cause leaf skeletonizing, though severe infestations are rare.
