The Green Velvet Boxwood (Buxus 'Green Velvet') is a popular, hardy evergreen shrub known for its dense, deep green, velvety foliage that holds color all winter, making it ideal for low hedges, foundation plantings, and topiaries in USDA Zones 5-8. This versatile hybrid, combining Korean and English boxwoods, offers a compact, rounded growth habit (maturing to 3-4 ft tall/wide), tolerates sun to part shade, resists deer, and requires well-drained soil for best performance.

Key Characteristics:

  • Foliage: Small, round, deep green leaves that stay green year-round, even in winter.
  • Growth Habit: Dense, multi-stemmed, naturally rounded, and compact, making it excellent for formal shaping.
  • Size: Typically reaches 3-4 feet tall and wide.
  • Texture: Fine texture with dense branching.

Growing Conditions:

  • Sun: Full sun to part shade; morning sun is ideal to prevent winter scorch.
  • Soil: Prefers well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil, adaptable to sand/clay.
  • Water: Moderate; water well when establishing and during dry spells, but avoid overwatering.
