#1.5 Gallon

Everbearing strawberries are productive perennials that yield two to three harvests—typically in spring, summer, and fall—rather than a single June crop, making them ideal for continuous fresh eating and container gardening. They are compact (6–10 inches tall), hardy in zones 3–10, and produce fewer runners than June-bearers, directing energy into fruit production.

Key Characteristics and Care

  • Harvest Cycle: Unlike the single large crop of June-bearers, these plants provide a consistent supply of medium-sized, sweet, and firm berries from late spring until the first frost.
  • Planting: Prefer full sun (6–8+ hours) and well-draining, rich soil, with a pH of 5.5–6.5.
  • Spacing: Set plants 12–18 inches apart to allow for spread, as they produce some, though fewer, runners.
  • Maintenance: Require consistent moisture, especially in containers, and benefit from mulch to keep fruit clean and conserve water.

Problems with Everbearing Strawberries

  • Total Yield: While they bear over a longer season, the total volume of fruit produced in a year is generally lower than that of June-bearing varieties.
  • Summer Lull: They often produce a strong spring crop and a strong fall crop, with very little production in between.
  • High Maintenance: Considered high-maintenance, they require regular care, potential pest management, and need to be replanted or heavily renovated every few years for maximum productivity.

Flavor and Usage
Everbearing varieties are known for having a sweet, pleasant taste, making them excellent for fresh eating, jams, and baking. Modern cultivars are versatile and highly productive, with some, like 'Eversweet', noted for intense sweetness
