#1 Gallon

Elijah Blue Fescue (Festuca glauca 'Elijah Blue') is a popular, low-maintenance, clumping ornamental grass prized for its intense silver-blue, needle-like foliage, maintaining color year-round in mild climates. It forms neat, mounded, semi-evergreen tufts growing 8–12 inches tall and wide, ideal for edging, rock gardens, and containers. Thriving in full sun and well-drained, poor soils, it is drought-tolerant, deer-resistant, and hardy in USDA Zones 4–8.

Key Characteristics & Care

  • Appearance: Fine-textured, powdery blue, spiky, 6–10 inches tall and 8–12 inches wide.
  • Flowers: Light green/blue, tan-colored stalks in late spring/early summer, which can be removed to focus on foliage.
  • Sun/Soil: Requires full sun for best color; prefers dry-to-average, well-drained, sandy, or rocky soil.
  • Hardiness: Zones 4–8.
  • Maintenance: Drought tolerant, but should be watered regularly during the first growing season. Cut back to 2-3 inches in early spring to refresh foliage.
  • Lifespan: Replant or divide every 2-3 years for best performance to prevent the center from dying out.
  • Applications: Ideal for mass plantings, rock gardens, border edging, and containers.
